MY APPROACH

TELL ME YOUR STORY IN WRITING...

Before our first appointment, I ask you to write me a letter, anywhere from one paragraph to ten pages, to arrive at least two days before our scheduled meeting. In that letter, you can detail--

  •  what career issues you are facing

  •  what you have already tried

  •  what you want help with

  •  anything else I need to know to make our first hour productive

For you the letter is an organizing tool to help you get your thoughts on paper.

For me, it is a chance to meet you on paper before we speak.

In addition, you can send me up to 40 pages of supplementary materials from your files you believe would be helpful or which you would like to discuss. These might include--

  •  a resume, curriculum vitae, or multiple versions of these

  •  cover letters for jobs

  •  reference letters or performance reviews

  •  job descriptions for positions that attract you or to which you have already applied

*If you send originals that need to be returned,  please let me know.

WHAT WE DO IN OUR SESSIONS

People come to me with a whole variety of issues relating to their work lives. For example,

For those exploring career options, we might review your skills, interests and values, examine possible career choices, and/or consider approaches and resources for informational interviewing. I might refer you to specific career literature.

For those in a job search, we might develop a marketing strategy, redesign your resume, practice interviewing, and/or figure out how to negotiate a good salary.

For those on the job, we might look at what is causing you stress- whether it is an open plan office, a toxic co-worker, a difficult boss, and brainstorm on best possible strategies going forward.

HOW WE WORK TOGETHER...

I have no minimum or maximum number of sessions that we work together.  You decide what you need and what works best for you.
